Can one dare to dream that JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION is the capstone to the franchise that began almost thirty years ago? From the unique conceit of cloning dinosaurs from genetic material extracted from mosquitos trapped in amber, we have ended with a world where dinosaurs are running about as part of everyday life, as evidenced by children playing with little lizards in the park to pteranodons nesting atop the Empire State Building.
But mankind isn't done yet making decisions determined to drive the species to extinction. DOMINION decides to crib its plots from RESIDENT EVIL, with BioSyn replacing the Umbrella Corporation, and prehistoric bass-sized locusts standing in for zombies. Why Lewis Dodgson (Campbell Scott), the mad hatter CEO of the genetic wonderland of BioSyn, decided these were the thing to create is speculative, although they're loose in the world, threatening to wipe out the food supply -- except they don't seem to eat any crops genetically engineered by BioSyn, so there might be the reason.
Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) is investigating the locusts, and calls upon her friend Alan Grant (Sam Neill) for help. Alan is toiling away as a paleontologist with students who don't understand why they're digging up dinosaur bones when they can just go get one in the woods, which is another excellent question.
Meanwhile, Jurassic worlds converge when dinosaur wrangler Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), who has mastered the art of getting wild dinosaurs to "talk to the hand" is joined by Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) to track down the kidnapped girl they've been raising in seclusion from society. Masie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon) is the cloned daughter of super-genius geneticist Charlotte Lockwood. In fact, Charlotte's cloning job is so good that Masie even inherited her mother's British accent despite being raised by two midwest Americans.
Paths converge at the BioSyn dinosaur habitat where our heroes and villains meet up with Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) and smuggler-for-hire DeWanda Wise (Kayla Watts).
I won't explain how the solutions are found to the dinolocusts and Masie's recovery. This isn't a movie where you're supposed to think about the plot. You're just supposed to watch the dinosaurs chase people and, occassionally, each other. We even get a mini Shin Kaiju movie when Tyrannosaurus Rex takes on Giganatosaurus, and works together with another giant predator in a move that even your greenest WWE booker would sneer at as unbelievable.
